Elin Nordegren Plans To Divorce Tiger Woods

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Keith AllisonDespite her original statements claiming that she had planned to give Tiger a chance and try to work things out, Elin Nordegren has officially announced her plans to leave her famous husband. News about Tigers afairs with up to nine women has been circulating the globe over the last week, and while the Swedish model claims she knew that he had been unfaithful, she also believed he had stopped cheating on her.

Sources close to the couple report that she has made up her mind and will not be swayed to stay with her adulterous husband. This weekend, Elin was photographed around town not wearing her wedding ring. Reports indicate that she has been speaking with divorce attorneys in her local area regarding her prenuptial agreement and providing instructions to moving men who appeared to be removing large works of art from the couple’s home.

While adultery is not ordinarily grounds for a larger divorce settlement, San Francisco divorce attorneys say the prenuptial may make mention of unfaithfulness and have remedies in place for this situation. If so, Tiger could lose far more than 50% of his property.

Strange Divorce Settlements

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

pdstahlDivorces are hard for everyone, but when a lot of property is involved, things can get even more complex. A San Francisco divorce attorney can tell you that sometimes it helps to know that your divorce agreement isn’t as complex as you think it is. A recent post on Mental Floss has a fascinating list of 10 of the most bizarre divorce settlements of all time. A few highlights from the article are included below.

- Marvin Gaye’s lavish spending left him facing difficulties when it came to paying Anna Gordy’s alimony, so his attorneys struck up an agreement:

Gaye would record a new album and give all of the royalties to Gordy as alimony. Gaye headed into the studio and recorded the double album Here, My Dear to fulfill this deal with Gordy. Unfortunately for Gordy, critics and audiences didn’t love Gaye’s divorce-themed concept album; although today’s critics praise the album it was the singer’s worst charting record of the 1970s.

- This year, a Long Island doctor wanted his unfaithful wife to return the kidney he had donated to her or $1.5 million compensation for the sacrifice. Unsurprisingly, the courts did not recognize the request, as returning the kidney would have been disastrous for the wife’s health and organ donations are gifts, not loans.

- A Cambodian husband took the rule of equal property division very literally during his divorce last year –he cut the couple’s house in two, deconstructed his part and took the supplies back to his parent’s house.

-Writer Georges Simenon agreed to pay an exceptionally generous divorce settlement, but with one stipulation: his wife had to continue living within six miles of him so he could see his children regularly.

Man Blames Divorce On Noise From SFO

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

PhillipCSan Francisco divorce attorneys know that most divorces come down to infidelity, irreconcilable differences or other problems between the two spouses, but one Bay Area man is blaming his recent divorce on an entirely different problem –the San Francisco International Airport. Stanley Hilton is now suing the airport for $15 million, claiming he would still be married if it weren’t for the noise from the jet engines landing at the airport.

“The marriage went downhill almost immediately upon moving to this location,” Hilton said in an interview with The San Mateo County Times reported. “The house became extremely uncomfortable with the smog and the noise, and it caused enormous problems that led to the divorce.”

He also claims the noise from the planes, which he compared to bombs dropping on a war zone, caused his health and career to suffer as well. Hilton, an ex-litigation lawyer, will be representing himself in the suit.
